
As part of the European Union project entitled “Traceability at wine industry through integrated labelling of typicality, health protection effect and organoleptic attributes – TRADEWINDU,” Professor Dr. Olivier Donard had the opportunity, accompanied by a young researcher from the Excellence Center (FoodHub), to visit the “13th July Plantaze,” which is part of the consortium of the aforementioned project.
Professor Donard is a member of the French Academy of Sciences, director of the National Center for Scientific Research (CNRS), director of the Institute of Analytical Sciences, physical-chemical sciences focused on the environment, at the University of Pau in France, and founder of the IPREM laboratory. He began his academic journey studying at the University of Bordeaux-I in France, and later taught at the University of Geneva, Switzerland. His academic career led him to the United States, where he conducted pivotal post-doctoral research under the auspices of the US Environmental Protection Agency and the National Science Foundation.

Professor Donard delivered an inspiring lecture to the representatives and employees of this company, presenting his research on the analysis of isotopic profiles in wines, emphasizing the importance of this approach in uncovering the true origin of wine and combating counterfeiting. With rich experience and work with renowned brands such as Champagne and Evian, Professor Donard shared his deep knowledge of product authenticity and protection, particularly focusing on the wine industry.

Additionally, Professor Donard had the privilege of visiting the Šipčanik Wine Cellar, vineyards in the Ćemovsko field, and the Old Cellar “Lješkopolje.” During the tour, he familiarized himself with the company’s production capacities and vineyards, analyzing every aspect of the wine production process with deep interest and expertise. Furthermore, he enjoyed tasting premium Montenegrin wines from the Plantaze company, highlighting their uniqueness and quality.
